NextDecade is committed to environmental stewardship, which includes reducing emissions and mitigating impacts to wetlands and wildlife. For example, our Rio Grande LNG project is designed to meet or exceed all environmental and other regulatory requirements, which include strict standards governing impacts on air, land, water, and wildlife.
In coordination with The Conservation Fund, Ecosystem Investment Partners, Brownsville Navigation District, and other partners, NextDecade has implemented an expansive conservation effort that will promote and preserve biodiversity by protecting more than 4,000 acres of land in perpetuity – five times the size of the Rio Grande LNG export facility’s actual footprint of 761 acres.
NextDecade donated $130,000 to the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute at Texas A&M University – Kingsville (TAMUK) to fund a Texas tortoise translocation study relocating tortoises found on our lease property to TAMUK’s South Pasture Facility.
NextDecade is:
Targeting production of low carbon intensive LNG from Rio Grande LNG with the use of proposed carbon capture and storage and our proprietary processes
Working with leading producers to supply responsibly sourced natural gas
Mitigating impacts to wetlands and wildlife
Pledging use of net-zero power for Rio Grande LNG’s electricity needs
Reducing visual impacts of Rio Grande LNG by optimizing plant design, muted color schemes, and more
