A More Sustainable LNG for the World

A More Sustainable LNG for the World

NextDecade is combining NEXT Carbon Solutions’ proposed carbon capture and storage (CCS) project with responsibly sourced natural gas (RSG) and our pledge to use net-zero power. We expect Rio Grande LNG to produce a lower-carbon-intensive LNG product – and provide a more sustainable LNG project to our customers around the world.

“Global LNG customers are increasingly focused on reducing the carbon footprint of the products they are buying. We offer one of the lower-carbon-intensive LNG products in the world – and NextDecade’s customers can benefit from the confidence of a verifiably low-GHG LNG product at known costs throughout the contract term.”

Transparency & Certification

On April 19, 2021, NextDecade and Project Canary announced the formation of a joint pilot project for monitoring, reporting, and independent third-party measurement and certification of the GHG intensity of LNG to be sold from Rio Grande LNG. Project Canary is focused on delivering independent, trusted, continuous emissions monitoring data and related technologies to assess environmental performance across the energy value chain. This framework, the first in the global LNG industry, will enable the development of a responsibly sourced natural gas supply chain from leading producers in the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford Shale and independent, third-party certification of the GHG intensity of LNG.
